American Heritage Girls Aviation Badge Day

The chapter has put together an event for the local American Heritage Girls from grades 3-8 . We will be holding the event on Saturday, April 13th at Signature Flight Support FDK in the corporate hangar (closest to AOPA ramp). Set up will be starting at 8am with event concluding at 3pm.  Please email Elizabeth Hoover at planehoover@gmail.com to volunteer to help or provide flights!

City of Frederick Partners with AOPA to Develop New Multi-Hangar Complex at FDK

"FREDERICK, Md., Dec. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The City of Frederick has awarded the lease of a 620,000 SF site at Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK) to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) for the development of a hangar complex consisting of up to 194,400 square feet of general aviation aircraft hangars. FDK is the designated general aviation reliever airport for Baltimore Washington International Airport and is the preferred executive airport for the region. A model for airport self-sufficiency & sustainability, the new partnership engages private investment to deliver critical aircraft storage facilities that are in high demand at FDK, while simultaneously generating revenue for the airport through leasing ." 

Hit up two spectacular aviation events in one weekend in May: AOPA’s eightieth anniversary celebration and fly-in and the 2019 Joint Base Andrews Air Show.

The Ninety-Nines Scholarship Registry is a collection of scholarships offered by individuals, organizations, Chapters or Sections which will utilitize one application and set of instructions. Applications are collected and forwarded to the appropriate parties offering the scholarships. The Ninety-Nines do not review or judge the applications.

Our Sugarloaf chapter has participated in the Expo for several years. I’m looking forward to being a part of it again! It’s a great opportunity for young people getting started in aviation as s career or hobby. Also college scholarship opportunities!

AOPA Floats Request for Support for 80th Anniversary Fly-in to City

The Airport Owners and Pilots Association will celebrate 80 years in business in May, and its representatives want support from city officials to hold an anniversary fly-in at Frederick Municipal Airport.

Air Race Classic registration opens

Registration opened Jan. 2 for the forty-third annual Air Race Classic. The women's cross-country air race kicks off on June 18 in Jackson, Tennessee, and ends on June 21 in Well and, Ontario, Canada.

Fly Out!

We will be doing a flyout on 1/20/19 to Arnold Palmer Regional Airport (LBE) in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.  This is a fairly easy flight from FDK over the rolling hills to the west. LBE is a towered airport with a great airport restaurant called DeNunzio's. We will depart FDK approximately 11 a.m., planning to meet for lunch at 12:30.  This event is open to all. Please contact us for more information.

2020 Flyover of Nation's Capital Announced!

To honor the heroes who fought in the War and those on the home front who produced the tanks, ships, and aircraft that enabled the United States and its Allies to achieve victory, one of the most diverse arrays of World War II aircraft ever assembled will fly above the skies of Washington, D.C. on Friday, May 8, 2020, the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, as part of the Arsenal of Democracy World War II Victory Capitol Flyover.

Former flight attendant Lynn Rippelmeyer describes the combination of sheer determination and luck that gave her the chance to become to a commercial pilot in the 1970s, at a time when many believed women were incapable of the job.
